YEARS IN MARKETING

My Story

KOKO

Keep On Keeping On (KOKO) was a phrase I often heard my father say. It was his way of saying; embrace the challenges and opportunities in life – just make sure to keep moving forward.

He achieved some amazing goals and was one of the most positive individuals that I’ve ever had in my life.

Following The Passion

With the mantra of KOKO, I’ve always tried to embrace a range of opportunities, both personally and professionally.

I’ve been fortunate to enjoy an eclectic professional career as a creative and strategic marketer. As part of that journey, I have had the opportunity to work with famous brands and even create new ones. It’s been a blast—most of the time.

I’ve had some notable accolades along the way and for me, there’s nothing quite like that creative moment, when you nail a strategy that returns a formidable ROI. I find that’s the real buzz!

The Rough With The Smooth

It wasn’t always a smooth ride. I’ve experienced highs and lows, and when I’ve stumbled or just plain failed, I saw it as another learning and an opportunity to keep moving forward. As the adage goes, “life is a journey rather than a destination“. And probably the best lesson I’ve learnt so far is never to give up and love what you do!

Where The Heart Is

I’ve always had an entrepreneurial spirit and a passion for life. I’m blessed to have experienced many adventures and shared them with some inspiring people. It’s helped me understand that it’s not what you know; it’s what you don’t know – and that has helped me grow as a father, son, husband, and friend. I use the same psychology as a marketer, and creating this blog is about learning and sharing.

The Digital Renaissance

When I started, marketing was a very different animal – and yes, that was before the internet (ahem). I cut my teeth at The Economist, one of the world’s most distinguished journals, followed by several years in agency and client environments, working across different industries and verticals.

Since starting in the industry, I’ve seen how marketing has evolved to include more than just traditional methods such as print, TV and radio. These mediums remain relevant, but digital marketing provides that extra dimension and insight, resulting in a whole new way of communication. And this digital renaissance we’re living through is growing exponentially, with a worldwide expenditure estimated to reach over $786 billion by 2026!

There’s a diverse selection of software available on the web, from CRM systems for keeping your house in order to AI Tools. All of these have saved me time and the cost of outsourcing projects and/or campaigns, which in turn has transformed the ROI.

It’s all about balance

As with everything in life, it’s all about balance. I’ve used digital marketing as a critical pillar in support of an overall strategy that has always included other elements of the marketing mix, such as events, PR, direct mail and when necessary, guerrilla campaigns.

This site is about all of us improving and evolving to become the best marketers, entrepreneurs and business owners that we can be. My aim is to inspire you with a resource of marketing methods, tactics and tools to help you succeed online – and beyond. So let’s cut through the bullshit together and take a swipe at the competition!

Carpe diem.
